Christmas Events in Galveston

Unsure what to do now that it isn’t beach weather anymore? Well I’m here to tell you that Galveston is much more than just beaches and suntans. There are events and traditions that have taken place for dozens of years and they are unforgettable. Today, we will discuss all of the wonderful activities that you and you family can take part of during your stay on the beautiful island of Galveston this holiday season.

Iceland: Pole to Pole Moody Gardens

Why visit the north pole when the experience has been brought to you at Moody Gardens? A group of skilled ice carvers have brought to  more than 2 million pounds of ice to help recreate your own adventure to Santa’s wonderland: The North Pole. You will get to see animals such as:

  • polar bears
  • penguins
  • humpback whales
  • snowy owls
  • walrus
  • reindeer

The Grand Opera House Holiday Season

If you’re more into musical arts, why not come check out Galveston’s own The Grand 1894 Opera House. They put on shows every year and never seem to disappoint. You will get to see acts such as:

  • Asleep at the Wheel
  • A Charlie Brown Christmas Live on Stage
  • Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol
  • The Priests

You may think that the opera really isn’t your thing, but once you see one of these shows, you will be left speechless and will want to come back over and over again! The opera house will be performing from November 24th to January 12th.  Tickets can be purchased here.

Moody Gardens Festival of Lights

The Festival of Lights is and event you will not want to miss. You get to walk down a mile-long trail that has over a million different lights and lighted scenes. The trail circles around Moody Gardens. While you’re here, make sure you check out the beautiful views of Galveston Bay that Moody Gardens has to offer. Bike Riding on the Seawall

What’s better than taking a bike ride with your family along the seawall? You get to ride across from the beautiful shore will getting to spend quality time with your loved ones. Also, with the weather being cold, the seawall won’t be very crowded. This makes the bike ride much safer and enjoyable. While you’re riding make sure you check out some local restaurants and attractions such as:

Galveston Railroad Museum

Come welcome Santa Clause as he boards the Harborside Express Train at the Galveston Railroad Museum. Children under 12 will get to board for free while there is a $12 admission fee for anyone 13 and over. Enjoy a nice train ride while your kids get to take pictures with Santa and tell them what they want for Christmas. This event takes place on December 15th, so for your kids’ sake, DON’T MISS IT!  Get all the details here.
