Imagine… live theatre right here in Galveston! The Grand 1894 Opera House is a beautiful theatre that is listed in the national registry of historic places.
Amazingly, it survived the storms of 1900 and 1915, Hurricane Carla, Hurricane Alicia, and many more.
The Grand was created in 1894 when Henry Greenwall raised the needed funds of $100,000 with commitments from civic-minded citizens of Galveston and prominent businessmen.
From 1794 and 1990, 8 million dollars was raised in order for the Grand to be restored. Today it is a non-profit performing arts theatre.
