History
Katie’s Seafood House was only a wild dream when Katy and Buddy Guindon met in the late 80s. Buddy, a successful tavern owner, knew how to run a business.
With Buddy’s prior knowledge of the fishing industry and Katie’s culinary skills that go back for generations, they purchased the Galveston Shrimp Company, and later their own restaurant: Katie’s Seafood House.
Their children are even involved in the restaurant and fishing aspect of the business as well. One runs the business side, the other is the captain of his own fishing boat, and the last one works in the restaurant.
The fact that the family controls every aspect from fishing to cooking and serving is truly remarkable. Nobody else on the island has done what this family has done and its truly amazing!
The Food
Mary, who was mentored by her grandmother, has culinary techniques that her family has used for generations. Her idea was to bring that family flair to seafood not usually placed on a normal restaurant menu. The majority of fish she will be using is bycatch, which is generally the unwanted fish that fishermen catch in large net. Examples of bycatch include:

- Barrel Grouper
- Hake
- Scorpion Fish
The southern-style dishes on the menu include a mix of Creole, Latin, and some other savory flavors including chutneys and curries. If you’re not into seafood, there are other alternatives you can choose from such as:
- Steak
- Pork
- Chops
- Chicken
- Vegan
If you’re unsure about what to get, just tell the chef to make you something and I promise you’ll be surprised with a delicious plate of food! The restaurant also caters and can be booked for special events.
When you go, you can expect to chose from a full menu as well as have access to the full bar. You may choose to sit inside or in the beautiful patio overlooking the historical Pier 19 while watching cruise ships sail by.
