Trolley Bus Galveston- An Experience You Must Try in 2019

WHAT IS A TROLLEY BUS?

A Trolley bus is an electric bus that draws power from overhead wires using spring-loaded trolley poles. Trolley buses is different from a tram or a street car because the tram and street car use a track as the return path, needing only one wire or pole.

They are also very different from other electric buses that usually rely on batteries. Power is mostly used as a 600-volt direct circuit.

HOW MANY TROLLEY BUSES ARE THERE?

Right now, there are about 300Trolley buses on use in around cities and towns in about 43 different countries. There are no more than 400 in use today. Some which are found right here in Galveston, TX!

WHAT ARE THE TIMES OF OPERATION?

Service for the Trolley bus will be operating Monday through Thursday from 11am to 7pm. During Friday, Saturday, and Sunday it is open to 10am to 10pm.   Between May 28 and Sept 3, the Trolleys will be available 10am-10pm. The Trolley typically arrives at every stop approximately every 30 minutes.

WHAT ARE THE PRICES TO GET ON THE TROLLEY?

The cost for riding on the Trolley is 1 dollar for an adult. Kids can ride for free as long as an adult is with them.  Also, exact change is required to ride on the bus and the drivers do not have the ability to make change.

WHAT ARE THE STOPS FOR RIDING THE TROLLEY IN GALVESTON?

On the Galveston trolley there are 7 stops within downtown Galveston. There is also a ride down 25th street where riders can get on the Seawall Trolley and then there are stops all along the beach from Stewart Beach all the way to Moody Gardens.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF USING A TROLLEY BUS?

Using the trolley bus has many advantages. For one, there is no exhaust in the electrical motor. That means that there is no pollution, which is healthy for the environment.

The trolleys are also very quiet, and the acceleration is quick because of the traction of rubber. Those are helpful in their own unique way. Also, the bus does not use petroleum-derived fuels, which means the scarce energy resources are conserved.

Next time when you decide to visit Galveston, make sure to try and take the trolley because it helps save the environment from pollution, its cheap and most importantly, it is a fun experience!!
