How about Surf Fishing?
Visiting Galveston? Looking to try a new and fun activity?
How about Surf Fishing? Surf fishing is the art of catching fish standing on the shoreline. You can either stand on the shore or place your rod into the sand and let the fish come to you. It is an activity fun for people of all ages.
Today, we’re going to talk about the main places in Galveston to Surf fish. They are San Luis Pass County Park and Bridge and of course from the shore line of my beach house!
To begin with, San Luis Pass has miles of beautiful beaches in which you can surf fish. My personal favorite spot was near the San Luis Pass Toll Road.
I really enjoyed the activity because I caught a numerous amount of fish such as redfish and trout. I would recommend this as a great spot for rookies or experienced anglers.
Another spot to surf fish is my oceanfront beach house. Of course, you would have to rent it first, but once you do you have all that land to yourself to catch as many fish as you want without disturbance! You’ve finally found a place to fish in peace!
Here are some tips for Surf fishing…
Timing
The action of the fish starts way before the sun comes up, so it’s important to set your alarm clock and get down here early. All the action goes down between the times of 8:00-9:00 am.
Also, the best time to go is during the week, because Galveston can get crowded with anglers, such as yourself. It’s important to remember… timing is everything! Of course if you have rented a beach front property, it might not be as crowded, especially on the West end closer to the San Luis Pass Bridge.
Safety
When doing any activity, safety always comes first. Always wear a life jacket or readily inflatable PFD to keep you afloat. The tides are very unpredictable, so it’s always better to be safe than sorry later.
Watch out for fish such as jellyfish and sharks. To avoid the painful sting of a jellyfish, wear pants or shuffle your feet often.
What to Bring
Along with all your fish gear, you need to be sure to wear pants to avoid jellyfish and a fishing shirt. You will also need a wading box with a shoulder strap. I would also recommend sunglasses and a hat to protect you from the blazing hot sun.
To conclude, Surf fishing is a delightful experience for you and your whole family.
Lucky for you, Galveston has miles and miles of beaches waiting for you to fish on them.
If you follow the safety rules, you will have the experience of a lifetime. Now go… the fishes are waiting to be caught!
